The Capital District YMCA together with our volunteers and community members is positioned to feed over 1200 families this Thanksgiving holiday. Join us to help pack food bags or to help delivery Thanksgiving meals to families in need throughout Rensselaer County and beyond. People helping people, it is what the Y is all about.

Troy YMCA
The Capital District YMCA Troy Family branch will be serving 100 families throughout the Troy community with a full Thanksgiving meal. Each family will receive a bag filled with all of the fixings, including a frozen turkey to cook at their convenience. Together we can help pack each bag and delivery these meals to families in our community. Neighbors helping neighbors, that is what the Thanksgiving Basket Brigade program is all about.

Guilderland YMCA
The Guilderland Y Indoor Triathlon! We are looking for volunteers to assist in race day tasks such as greeting, timing, swim lap counting, time recording, etc. Our event is scheduled for Sunday, January 12, 2025. First heat begins at 7:30AM sharp. Please consider joining us for this event! We hope to see you there!

Southern Saratoga YMCA
Join us as a volunteer for the Southern Saratoga YMCA Advisory Council. The Capital District YMCA is a volunteer-lead organization. Under the guidance of the Executive Director, these volunteers help provide valuable community perspective, are the YMCA ambassadors, and help fundraise for mission work in Clifton Park and the surrounding communities. This group of volunteers meet every other month from September - June, with opportunities to become involved in additional task forces, committees, and association events. Albany YMCA
Teen Nite is a program for youth that occurs twice monthly on Saturdays out of Green Tech Charter School, and in City of Albany parks in the summer. For over twenty years, the Capital District YMCA has held Teen Nite in Albany as part of its Gang Prevention initiative. Teen Nite provides a safe space for teens to gather and play basketball, eat food, listen to music, and hang out with their friends. Volunteers that participate in supporting this program will be lifelong mentors and role models to students that participate.

Southern Saratoga YMCA
Join us as a volunteer to assist our Swim Instructor staff with swim lessons. This volunteer opportunity is flexible and focuses on helping to teach youth ages 6 months - 12 years old water safety and how to swim. YMCA swim lessons run year round, typically in 4-7 week sessions (meeting once a week). Volunteers shifts are flexible! People Helping People is what our Thanksgiving Basket Brigade is all about. In 2016 this initiative started with a group of Y volunteers and community individuals talking about the impact of helping those in need on Thanksgiving. The Guilderland Y has a goal of 350 meals this year! Each basket will contain all of the fixings (canned vegetables, mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy, cranberry sauce, brownie or cake mix, rolls and a frozen turkey) needed to for a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner. Please assist us be picking up a few extra items during your grocery trips and donating them to this worthwhile cause.

Beginning in 2016, the Caring Community Basket Brigade initiative has brought joy to those who struggle during the holidays. Thanks to generous donors like you, the Y and our community partners have supported more than 2,400 families since 2016. You don’t need us to tell you that many families in the Capital District struggle every day to make ends meet. For them, there is no greater gift to begin the holiday season than all the fixings needed to prepare a complete Thanksgiving meal for their family. This year, we’re working to feed 2,000 families. Our Caring Community Basket Brigade helps to provide families in need with a full Thanksgiving dinner to cook for their family. Every family deserves the opportunity to provide their loved ones with a safe place to enjoy food and fellowship during the Thanksgiving season. We are asking for volunteers to help us pack the baskets and make home deliveries on Saturday, November 23rd. Thank you for helping to make this holiday a special one for families in our community.

Join us as a volunteer to assist in the planning and execution of our Basket Brigade program. Basket Brigade is one of the Catital District YMCA's key mission programs. Donations and funds are collected to provide a full Thanksgiving meal to families in our community. Each year the Southern Saratoga YMCA makes 180 baskets. This task force meets monthly - weekly from September-November. The members of this task force assist in working with community partners to secure funds, origanize food donations, and planning the basket delivery and pick-up event for families at the Southern Saratoga YMCA.

Our highly anticipated Giving Tree is in full swing as the holiday season draws near, and we are delighted to invite YOU to join us in bringing joy to our community. For innumerable families in our communities, the Giving Tree has served as a warmth source for years. The relief that comes with knowing their children will receive gifts during the holiday season is immense for families that are struggling financially, many of whom have recently experienced homelessness or are single parents raising multiple children. We are looking for volunteers in the kitchen to help maintains kitchen work areas, floors, equipment, and utensils. As well as, assist cooks with food preparation while maintaining high level of sanitation in immediate area.

The members of this task force assist in working with community partners to secure sponsorships, donations, and planning the tournament weekend at the Southern Saratoga YMCA.

The WAVES competitive program is a 4 week session, meeting three nights per week. Swimmers hone talents and technical skills at a high level in this program. Athletes work on mastering strokes, racing starts, flip turns and conditioning. Swimmers build their overall stamina and endurance in addition to improving their strokes.
